Trees Around Our School

We have lots of pohutukawa trees. They have rough bark. They have red flowers at Christmas time.

There are some cabbage trees at our school. The Maori name is ti kouka. They have tough leaves that are long and skinny like flax leaves.

The kowhai tree has lots of little leaves and yellow flowers. It will get the flowers soon and the tui will come and drink the nectar.

The punga is a tree fern. It grows quite tall. The underneath of the leaf is silver. The All Blacks wear the silver fern on their jersey.
